LA variations apply to LAN Airlines and its affiliates.
         
LA-01
 
a) Dangerous Goods shipments under the provisions of 2.6.1  will  be accepted only after a  prior analysis and approval of LAN Dangerous Goods Technical Committee.
b) Any requirement regarding to  grant  some exemptions,  will be coordinated with the LANCargo  Safety Department , who will summon any decision to the LAN Dangerous Goods Technical Commitee.

LA-02 
Dangerous goods consignments must be delivered with enough time in advance to allow  the total completion of the acceptance checks and the document preparation. Shippers should contact the local LAN cargo office to confirm the cut-off time.
         
LA-03 Not used.
         
LA-04 Not used.
         
LA-05
Chemical Oxygen generators, will only be accepted for carriage when the following conditions are met:
 
• the oxygen generator must be in its original packaging, which has not been opened or damaged; and
• the packaging or the attached documentation must prove that the oxygen generator has not passed its expiration date and it was not  used.
         
LA-06
For Toxic substances of Division 6.1 or 2.3 the following requirements must be complied with:
 

a) Toxic substances of División 6.1 Packing Group I, that are toxic by Inhalation, will not be accepted for transport, unless a prior approval is obtained (*)
b) Toxic gases of Division 2.3, will not be accepted for carriage, unless a prior approval is obtained (*)
c) When the substance to be carried , has an Inhalation  Mist, Powder or Vapour hazard, the following endorsement will be registered in the Additional Handling Information Box "Mist, Powder or Vapour Inhalation Hazard" (as appropriated)

   
Note 1: this requirement only applies to the primary risk.
Note 2: in those cases where the toxic substance to be transported has more than one via of administration  That risk by wich the substance was allocated to a Packing Group must be considered.
 
d) Solid toxic substances of any kind will not be accepted for carriage in bags 5H2, 5H3, 5H4 or 5M2 as single packaging unless contained in a strong hot sealed polyethylene bag at least 200 microns thick.
If this type of packages are offered over packed in a warehouse pallet, they will be accepted for carriage provided:
(c.1) the warehouse pallet is rigid and strong enough to support the weight assembled on it, without bending when fork lifted;
(c.2) the surface of the warehouse pallet is continuous, soft and free of sharp protruding points which could pierce the bags; and
(c.3) the warehouse pallet is provided with separation bars from the floor for the use of a forklift.

LA-07
Infectious substances will be accepted under advance special arrangement and the following requirements must be met:
 
a) Documental requirements:
The shipper must prove by a document such as a fax, telex, letter, etc. that the infectious substances can legally enter the country of destination and has complied with all the requirements of the countries of origin and destination of the shipment. 
b) Prohibitions:
Infected animals, dead (whole bodies) or alive will not be accepted for carriage.
Note: The Shipper must  attach a Certificate duly signed  and issued by a medical, scientific or other similar  professional which prove the Classification of the Patient Specimen in the following cases:
(1) Shipment of any Patient Specimens, prepared according DGR ´paragraph  3.6.2.2.3.
         
LA-08
Transport of batteries will be subject to prior arrangement to ensure that the following requirements are complied with:
 
a) Batteries, wet spillable, filled with corrosive liquid electrolyte will only be accepted as cargo aircraft only (CAO), and: In addition to the requirements of packing instructions 800, each battery must be individually packed with absorbent and cushioning material. The absorbent and cushioning material must not react with the liquid electrolyte.
The only exceptions (Which may be carried on a passenger’s aircraft. are:
   
• vehicles as provided in LA-10
• Batteries shipped as “Company Material” belonging to  Lan Airlines and its affiliates, and
• Batteries shipped as part of a passenger’s battery-powered wheel chair or mobility aid.
 
b) Special provision A67, applicable to “batteries, wet, non-spillable” will apply only to new batteries that meet the following requirements: 
      - Documentation must be attached to the shipment to certify that the batteries are new and meet the requirements of special provision A67, and
      - The battery terminals must be insulated or otherwise protected  against  short-circuits.
         
LA-09
Mercury will be accepted for carriage, provided the following requirements are met:
 
a) Acceptance will be subject to cargo aircraft only,
b) Only combination packages will be accepted,
c) Inner packaging must be IP2 – plastic, or iron steel “quicksilver” flasks. Inner packaging IP1 and IP8   must not be used,
d) Outer packaging 1G or 4G must not be used,
e) Outer packaging must have a strong inner lining, puncture-resistant, leak-proof and impervious to mercury and must meet the requirements for Packing Group I,
f) Each package must not exceed 1 L.
         
LA-10
Acceptance of vehicles such as automobiles, self-propelled vehicles and other related articles is subject to the following conditions:
 
a) The fuel tank must be drained and securely closed; and
b) Batteries filled with liquid corrosive electrolyte will only be accepted in a vehicle that is unlike to be carried in other than the upright position.
         
LA-11
Where any doubt arises regarding the classification of a substance, Shipper must provide, upon request, LAN Airlines with a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for the substance or a declaration on company letterhead confirming the classification.
         
LA-12
Dangerous goods in excepted quantities (see subsection 2.7) will only be accepted under advance arrangement. Please contact the local LA Cargo Office.
         
LA-13
Not used
         
LA-14 
The marking required by 7.1.5 and application of hazard and handling labels on packages containing dangerous goods must not be applied to the top or bottom of the packages.
These markings and labels must be applied to the sides of packages. These requirements do not apply to full name and address of the Shipper and Consignee, according 7.1.5.1.b
 
LA-15 
Lan Airlines will not accept for carriage Fissible material, as is defined in 10.3.7 of DGR.(*)
