• The 65,121 sq. ft. (6,050 m2) facility is located at El Dorado Airport in Bogota, Colombia.
• The nearly US$7 million investment is part of the more than US$ 200 million dollars in assets that the LAN CARGO affiliate has invested in Colombia.
LAN CARGO's affiliate in Colombia, Línea Aérea Carguera de Colombia S.A. (LANCO) opened a 65,121 sq. ft. (6,050 m2) facility today at the El Dorado Airport in Bogota. Through this investment, LANCO is committed to maintaining the safest and most modern warehouse in the region.
With 25,833 sq. ft. (2,400 m2) for cold storage and 36,597 sq. ft. (3,400 m2) for dry storage, the expanded warehouse, featuring state-of-the-art technology, provides superior efficiency and quality of service. The warehouse will provide a smooth import and export operation, especially for the flower industry and guarantee that the cold chain is maintained while complying with the highest environmental standards in the industry.
The US$7 million LANCO investment in the expansion of the warehouse facilities, results in a 125% increase in operating capacity, reducing the processing times for cargo delivery and reception by more than half.
"This investment reaffirms LANCO's commitment to the growth of the air cargo export industry in South America by supporting safety, quality and efficiency to customers in the Colombian flower industry ", said Cristián Ureta, CEO, LAN CARGO adding that "these new facilities make it possible for customers of LANCO and LAN CARGO to increase competiveness, guarantee continued cold chain, and save time and resources in the export process".
During 2010, LANCO transported more than 47,300 tons of cargo, mostly flowers. For 2011, the company is expected to transport 92,000 tons.
